Best CBD Oils

best cbd oil review by healthy body healthy mind
Read Carefully

CBD oil has been increasing in popularity over the last couple of years, as its beneficial properties are seen by more people.

People are using CBD oil for various reasons, including pain, anxiety, insomnia, general wellbeing, an increased quality of life, and more. Despite its growing prevalence, most people would be hard-pressed to explain what exactly CBD is, what its benefits are, how to take it, or where to find it.

This article answers all the above questions and more.

What is CBD?

CBD is the short form of for a compound called Cannabidiol obtained from the Cannabis plant. It’s only second to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in terms of abundance in nature among all the Cannabinoids.

The only difference between CBD and THC is that it doesn’t make people feel high because it is not psychoactive. It is only similar to THC in health benefits. Taking CBD is like taking cannabis but without the highness.

CBD is gotten from hemp or Marijuana. Hemp or Hemp extract has a high concentration of CBD. So there is hemp derivative of CBD and marijuana derivative.

It is legal to sell marijuana derivative of CBD in countries that have approved marijuana for medical use while hemp derivative of CBD can be sold in almost all parts of the world.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Extraction

CO2 extraction, which is also called Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE), uses supercritical carbon dioxide – existing in both a liquid and gas state – to separate CBD oil from plant materials. This is the best CBD oil extraction method because of how safe and efficient it is. CBD oil concentrations are consistent and changeable using this method.

Steam Distillation

Steam distillation utilizes steam to separate CBD oil from plant materials, heating water to a boil to extract the CBD-containing oil vapors. After the vapors are collected, another extraction process separates the oil from the water. This method is extremely safe, but less efficient than CO2 extraction. It requires significantly more hemp plants to produce the same amount of CBD oil.

Solvent Extraction

Solvent extract, which tends to use either hydrocarbons or natural solvents, is exactly the same as steam distillation, but uses solvents rather than water to separate the CBD oil from the plant materials. After the vapor collects, the solvent evaporates, which leaves behind the oil. This is the least preferred method of CBD oil extraction due to health concerns. Hydrocarbon extraction utilizes problematic solvents such as naphtha, petroleum, butane, and propane. Natural solvent extraction is safer, but tends to also extract chlorophyll, which tastes bad, tainting the oil. Natural solvents also don’t evaporate as efficiently, making steam distillation safer and almost as effective.

Is CBD Oil Safe?

The public consensus is that high-quality CBD, including CBD oil, is safe for human use. There are, however, a few FDA warnings and concerns.

Currently, the CBD industry is largely unregulated, leading to some CBD products containing toxic metals, pesticides, and THC. The FDA writes, “… there are many unanswered questions about the science, safety, and quality of products containing CBD.” This concern is less about the safety of CBD, though, and more so about the safety of CBD products, generally speaking.

Other minor side effects include nausea, fatigue, and irritability.

If purchasing CBD from reputable retailers, it should be safe, but always speak with a healthcare professional before taking any product intended to be used as a medication or supplement, including CBD products.

What Is the Difference Between Full-Spectrum CBD, Broad-Spectrum CBD, and CBD Isolates?

There are three different CBD oils widely available. Each varies on the cannabinoid spectrum.

Full-Spectrum CBD Oil

Full-spectrum CBD oil contains all of the phytochemicals that are naturally found in the Cannabis sativa plant, including all cannabinoids, terpenes, essential oils, and insignificant amounts of THC.

If extracted from a hemp plant, the highest amount of THC possible is 0.3%, which is not enough to cause psychotropic experiences. If extracted from a marijuana plant, it is possible that the CBD to THC ratio is closer to 1:1, which will cause psychotropic experiences.

The benefit of full-spectrum CBD oil is called the entourage effect. The cannabinoids, terpenes, and essential oils work in union to provide more efficient beneficial impacts on the consumer.

Unfortunately, consuming too much full-spectrum hemp oil can cause false positives during drug tests, which is problematic for those that work jobs that require frequent drug testing.

Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil

Broad-spectrum CBD oil is almost exactly the same as full-spectrum, but after the initial extraction process, the insignificant amounts of THC are removed. It always contains 0% THC.

All of the cannabinoids, terpenes, and essential oils remain in broad-spectrum CBD oil. Even without THC, most of the entourage effect remains.

Consuming broad-spectrum CBD oil will never cause false positives on drug tests, making it a great alternative to full-spectrum for those that need it.

Unfortunately, it is slightly more expensive due to the additional work required to completely remove the THC.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is the purest form of the compound, hence the name. To isolate the compound from its environment is to remove all other compounds regardless of how similar they are.

Isolating CBD takes broad-spectrum CBD oil one step further. After extracting the THC from full-spectrum hemp oil, CBD isolate removes all non-CBD cannabinoids, terpenes, and essential oils.

It does not retain the entourage effect, and CBD isolate is typically seen as the least effective way to benefit from CBD oil. It is cheaper, however, and some benefits are still present.

What Is the Entourage Effect?

When using the Cannabis sativa plant for its beneficial qualities, it’s important to realize that each compound has a specific effect on your body, and using those compounds in unison can create additional effects or counteract pre-existing ones. For example, the two most famous compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plant, THC and CBD, interact in a unique way. CBD tends to relieve anxiety, which THC can provoke due to its psychotropic nature.

THC and CBD are not the only cannabinoids found in full- or broad-spectrum CBD oils. The most common cannabinoids are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabichromene (CBC), cannabigerivarin (CBGV), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), cannabidivarin (CBDV), and cannabichromevarin (CBCV).

Scientists are still unsure as to how each individual compound interacts in combination with other compounds, but it is clear that introducing new compounds to isolates does change their effect.

CBD Benefits

Full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate are all used for many different reasons. Some of the benefits of CBD are:

Pain Relief

Marijuana has been used to treat chronic pain for over 5,000 years, so it should be no surprise that CBD oil does the same.

While the combination of both CBD and THC seems to be the most effective way to relieve chronic pain, full- and broad-spectrum CBD can have similar effects by impacting the body’s endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation, and interacting with neurotransmitters.

The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is a cell-signaling system that receives chemical signals from certain stimuli and help cells respond. CBD alters the ECS is a significant enough way that it could produce anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.

Consider CBD products for chronic pain relief, arthritis relief, cancer treatment relief, and migraine pain relief.

Anxiety and Depression

Recent research suggests that CBD oil could have a beneficial impact on both anxiety and depression, especially when related to stress.

Depression tends to stem from low serotonin levels. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and social behavior. While CBD does not produce higher serotonin levels, it may influence the reaction your brain has to the serotonin already present.

Anxiety might also stem from low serotonin levels, and its connection with depression is well established. Influencing one tends to influence the other, positively or negatively.

A recent 2018 review of existing studies concluded that CBD lowers stress levels, which could positively affect anxiety and depression.

Make sure to consult a medical professional before stopping pharmaceutical anxiety or depression medications.

Heart Health

CBD research suggests the cannabinoid could benefit the heart and circulatory system, lowering high blood pressure in the process.

Similar to its impact on anxiety and depression, CBD’s ability to lessen stress levels is likely the reason it helps with heart health. Due to its antioxidant properties, CBD may also reduce inflammation and cell death associated with heart disease.

A recent 2017 study showed that men took 600 mg of CBD oil displayed a lower resting blood pressure than those taking a placebo. That same study showed that CBD impacts stress tests as well. A single dose of 600 mg of CBD oil resulted in a smaller blood pressure increase during stress tests than without.

Recent studies suggest that CBD can lessen excess oil production, as well as produce anti-inflammatory effects on oil-producing glands.

Acne occurs when excess oil, dirt, and dead skin cells clog pores, which leads to the build up of Propionibacterium acnes. In order to combat acne build up, inhibit the production of excess oil and acne-causing bacteria.

Research is still preliminary, but signs point toward CBD helping to treat some skin conditions, such as acne.

Sleep Disorders

Early studies suggest that CBD might aid in alleviating both external and internal factors that result in poor sleep quality.

Certain external factors like medication, caffeine, and environmental factors make sleeping difficult. While CBD can't alter most environmental factors, it can reduce the negative impacts of medication and caffeine.

Internal factors like anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression also lessen sleep quality. A 2019 study suggests that CBD can both lessen anxiety and improve poor sleep related to anxiety. In the first month, 79.2 percent of the patients reported lower anxiety levels and 66.7 percent reported better sleep.

CBD might also lessen pain, which can inhibit deep sleep.

How To Take CBD

CBD is consumed through a variety of different methods, each of which come with different benefits and drawbacks. Here are the four most popular ways to take CBD:

Sublingual Method

The sublingual method involves absorbing CBD through capillaries underneath your tongue.

This is most common with CBD tinctures, which includes CBD oil. Tinctures are solutions made by soaking the flowers from the cannabis plant in either oil or alcohol. Drip the oil or alcohol solution under your tongue and allow your body to absorb the CBD. This is the most effective and efficient method.

The benefits include a faster, more effective CBD consumption, as it avoids damaging the product through the digestive tract. Some report that edibles do last longer, but the benefits take longer to come into effect. Sublingual products, especially those without artificial flavoring, can have earthy or bitter tastes.

Other products that utilize the sublingual method include sprays and lozenges.

Edibles include gummies, truffles, mints, and more and allow consumers to partake in the benefits of CBD in the same way as vitamins.

Unlike sublingual products, edibles tend to do a great job of masking the odd taste of CBD-related tinctures, sprays, and lozenges. Unfortunately, the “first pass effect” is also common. Research shows that edibles allow the CBD to be partially broken down by the liver and digestive tract, which inhibits both the amount of time to takes to start working and its effectiveness. Due to the “first pass effect,” most edibles possess an absorption rate around 20 to 30 percent.

Vaping or Smoking

Similarly to THC, CBD can be inhaled through the lungs directly into the bloodstream, though this method could have negative effects on your body.

Smoking CBD is exactly the same as smoking THC. Roll high-CBD cannabis flower into a joint, light it, and inhale. Unfortunately, once the CBD reaches the point of combustion, exposure to carcinogens is likely.

To avoid carcinogens, consider vaping CBD instead. Vaping heats the cannabis flower up slightly below the point of combustion to avoid carcinogen exposure. This can be accomplished with a vaporizer containing CBD oil or vape pens with a chamber for CBD concentrates.

One of the benefits of smoking or vaping CBD is how long it takes to start working. Since it enters the bloodstream almost immediately, it takes less than 10 minutes for most of the effects to occur. Your body will absorb nearly 50 percent of the CBD within that first 10 minutes.

The downside, however, to smoking or vaping CBD is the problematic health claims against it. Smoking definitely exposes the body to carcinogens, which are cancer-causing agents. Less research has been done on vaping. If vaping, be sure to avoid thinning agents or carriers, such as fractionated coconut oil (MCT), propylene glycol, or vegetable glycerin, which cause damage to lung tissue.

CBD topicals are applied directly to the skin and tend to be used for more specific health concerns, including skin conditions, arthritis, and others. The most common topicals are balms, creams, salves, and transdermal patches.

While topicals aren’t subjected to the “first pass effect,” research are uncertain about our skin’s bioavailability with regard to CBD products. Topicals will likely provide concentrated relief to a particular area, but the permeability of your skin is not nearly the same as sublingual tissue, which means higher concentrations of CBD are required to get desired effects. This could be unnecessarily costly.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

It is difficult to determine the right amount of high-quality CBD for any particular person because each situation is different. Please, make sure to talk to a healthcare professional before deciding the right amount for you. There are, however, a few factors worth consideration.

Body Weight

CBD impacts people based on body weight. The more a person weighs, the more it takes to obtain the desired effect. Keep this in mind when choosing a CBD concentration per serving.

Desired Effect

Depending on a person’s desired effect, it is more or less beneficial to take more or less CBD oil. Before deciding on what CBD product is right for you, determine the impact that you want the oil to have on your body.

Body Chemistry

Speaking of bodies, body chemistry is very important. Certain people naturally react differently to CBD oil. Experimenting with CBD oil is the quickest and most effective way to determine how your body is going to react and whether or not a CBD product is right for you.

CBD Concentration

The concentration has a significant impact on the amount of time it takes CBD oil to “kick in” and the duration of the desired effects. The stronger the concentration per serving, the quicker and longer the effects.

What to Look for When Purchasing CBD Oil

best cbd oils

The CBD market is a very competitive place, and some competitors are blatantly dishonest with their products. It gives the entire industry a bad name and has convinced plenty of people to avoid CBD until the more credible companies come forward. There are plenty of companies with high-quality products and finding the best CBD oils doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are a few tips that will help you find the right type of CBD oil for you.

Ingredient Quality

The most important factor when determining the best CBD oils on the market is ingredient quality. Always look for companies that are transparent and use the highest quality ingredients. The type of oil used, whether coconut oil or MCT oil, is important as well. Coconut oil, hemp oil, and others all have different tastes, which brings us to our next tip.

CBD oil is very herbal, and the worst companies do very little to mask that taste. The best CBD oils on the market do a wonderful job using essential oils and other natural ingredients to make their products taste better.

User Reviews

Let other people tell you whether or not a company offers a great product or not. The best products always get great reviews. Read through each company’s reviews and you should be able to get a general feeling about how trustworthy and effective their product is.

While not the most important factor, the affordability of a company’s product is definitely important. If you can find a product that offers similar ingredients, taste, and has similar reviews for a much cheaper price, the choice is obvious. Never sacrifice affordability for quality, though. Finding the best product doesn’t always mean finding the cheapest.

A lot more research is required to identify and confirm the best CBD oil practices, but ignoring the potential benefits is almost impossible. The effects of CBD range from pain and anxiety relief to acne reduction. The most effective CBD strategy depends on the specific goals of each person, and the type of CBD oil products that you choose should match your desired outcome. For example, the effects of CBD isolate are much different than the effects of full-spectrum CBD. Many people are unaware of the entourage effect, but it is one of the most important elements of CBD consumption. CBD oil products that contain THC alter the mind and body in ways that other products do not. The oils used, such as coconut oil and hemp oil, might alter the way a tincture impacts your body as well. Consult a doctor to determine which type of CBD is right for you.
