Check out These Sex Drive Boosting Foods

Sometimes it takes more than soft lights, scented candles, and a sexy four-minute Marvin Gaye song to truly get the job done if you know what we mean. After all, when men close in on their 50s, their testosterone levels normally drop since biologically-speaking there is no urgent need to reproduce.

Your man is still interested in sex. But he needs the proper fuel. In this case, foods that will boost his libido. Experts report that if he eats the right foods and takes certain supplements, his youthful libido will return once his testosterone levels are boosted.

Indeed. food and drink have long been used to intensify sexual desire, but there are specific foods that can truly improve your man’s performance. Not odd, exotic foods from various faraway lands, but normal, common everyday foods. These common foods can up your odds at enjoying a successful, sexy session between your sheets.

Piedmont Healthcare’s Doctor Raj Laungani, M.D., said that while there is not any hard clinical data connecting food with the libido, he does confirm that a man’s diet can impact on a man’s general mood and energy level, which can then affect the male sex drive.

Author of “From Fatigued to Fantastic,” Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., writes that the same food that aids in boosting cellular function in the human body can be good for your man’s sexual organs. He notes that these same “nutrients, either obtained from food or, better yet, from supplements, can increase energy and also raise sperm count and motility.”

There’s more good news. Some of these are good for both of you.

Here are the foods that will boost your man’s sex drive:

Spinach

Popeye knew his stuff! Spinach is actually a great source of folate, which boosts the flow of blood throughout one’s body (including below the belt.) It also has magnesium in it. The National Institutes of Health reports that magnesium has been proven to boost testosterone levels.

Healthy Simple Life’s Cassie Bjork, RD, LD adds that magnesium in “a mineral that decreases inflammation in blood vessels [thus] increasing blood flow.” Sex expert and psychotherapist Tammy Nelson Ph.D. explains that the increase in “blood flow drives blood to the extremities” works much “like Viagra [and] can increase arousal and make sex more pleasurable.” She concludes that “men will find that erections come more naturally.”

Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate boosts the brain’s levels of dopamine and serotonin. This makes a person happier and lowers stress levels too. There is also the popular theory that says the cocoa in dark chocolate relaxes the blood vessels and increases the flow of blood through one’s arteries. This results in blood being more easily sent to all the right areas. (But seriously, do you really need a reason to snuggle in bed and eat chocolate?)

Coffee

Maybe this is why some people like to meet for coffee on a first date. Caffeine has been proven to improve blood flow throughout the body. It relaxes the muscles and the arteries of a man’s penis.

This can result in stronger erections. Additionally, caffeine has also been proven to prevent erectile dysfunction. (Maybe that’s why Starbucks can get away with charging such high prices, huh?)

Avocados

Avocados have both zinc and vitamin E. Both have been proven to increase the male sex drive. Zinc is especially helpful in raising testosterone levels. Finally, this fruit also contains B6 which is reputed to actually improve a man’s hormone production which is essential for a truly strong sex drive.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene. Online sources such as Prostate.net, confirm that the lycopene in tomatoes significantly helps the blood vessels relax. This enhances overall blood circulation and thus improves blood flow to the man’s penis. What’s more, tomatoes help lower the risk of getting prostate cancer.

Pine nuts

Believe it or not, pine nuts are not only tasty but they are full of arginine. The body converts arginine to nitric oxide. This is something that improves blood flow by dilating the blood vessels which is much like how the drug Viagra works.

Broccoli

Here is yet another really good reason to eat all your green vegetables. This one is reportedly quite high in indole-3-carbinol. Indole-3-carbinol aids in lowering a man’s estrogen levels, and, in turn, boosts his libido.

Peppers

The hotter the pepper, the hotter your man. Hot peppers stimulate endorphins and increase your metabolism. They plump the lips, make you sweat and speed up your heart rate.

More importantly, they get the blood flowing to all the essential areas. The bottom line is that you will have better sex and a memorable finish. (Note: if you choose to actually handle habañeros, be sure to wash your hands well prior to touching any sensitive body parts.)

Green tea

Who connects tea with excitement? Yet a hotter sex life could very well begin with a steaming hot cup of green tea. Green tea is actually rich in compounds known as catechins, which have been proven to burn away belly fat and even improve the liver’s capacity for converting fat into energy.

Ah, but there’s more! Catechins also help increase desire by boosting blood flow to the naughty bits. Bjork added that these catechins also eradicate “radicals that damage and inflame blood vessels, increasing their ability to transport blood.” She concludes that they “also cause blood vessel cells to release nitric oxide, which increases the size of the blood vessels, leading to improved blood flow.”

Oysters

James Bond knows more than just the spy business. He knows about oysters too. Oysters are full of zinc. The mineral zinc raises testosterone levels and also boosts the growth factor hormone. Both of these enhance physical performance and muscle growth.

Pesto

It’s simple. Eat pesto. Just like the above-mentioned oysters and pine nuts, pesto is another good source of zinc. Simply put, men who have higher levels of zinc in their bodies are reported to have higher sex drives than men with lower levels of zinc.

Ginger

If you’re the kind of woman who likes her food like you like your men–namely, spicy and sweet–then you are a lucky lady. Ginger is another edible that is reputed to be able to add spice to your sex life. Ginger improves artery health and aids blood flow too.

A study in the well-known International Journal of Cardiology, notes that eating only one teaspoon of ginger just a few times a week is all one needs to enjoy the multiple heart-healthy benefits. So eat all the sushi you want. Just make sure that you don’t leave one speck of ginger on your plate.

Pumpkin seeds

Sure, many people enjoy a pumpkin spice-flavored latte in the morning. But before you hit the sheets, you should definitely consider snacking on something from a real pumpkin. It could lift your spirits a bit more effectively.

Pumpkin seeds can put your man in a good mood. They are said to be one of the world’s best sources of a specific amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan helps produce serotonin in one’s brain. If your man is taking antidepressants to help his brain circulate serotonin, pumpkin seeds could make the drugs even more effective.

Bananas

Bananas are one of the world’s best sources of potassium. As such, they have been known to help prevent leg cramps. If you have ever had leg cramps while making love then you know how anticlimactic they can be.

Potassium also aids in counteracting the negative impact of foods that are high in sodium. Salty foods not only sometimes diminish the flow of blood to the genitals, which can make it harder to orgasm, but they can make one feel bloated too.

Potatoes

It doesn’t matter if the potato is sweet, white, red, or purple. Potatoes are a wonderful source of potassium. Again, potassium counteracts the bloating effects of salt and it also increases blood circulation. Increased blood circulation and less bloating can not only increase one’s performance in the sheets but also make one look a little better too. Finally, various studies have revealed that the potassium from potatoes can even improve your overall mood since low potassium levels have been linked to depression.

Fatty fish

Oily coldwater fish such as sardines, tuna, and wild salmon are full of omega-3 fatty acids. But there’s more. Not only is fatty fish good for your heart but it also ups the level of dopamine in one’s brain too.

An increase in dopamine improves both blood flow and circulation and even trigger arousal. Dopamine actually relaxes you and even more connected to your lover. This can make sex more fun. Just be sure to buy the right fish.

Supplements

Doctor Teitelbaum suggests men try energy revitalization powder. It’s a popular nutritional support supplement that includes more than 50 essential nutrients to boost overall health and sexual energy. He also suggests daily supplements of L-Arginine, Coenzyme Q10, and zinc to boost testosterone levels and sperm count.

Doctor Laungani adds that your man’s overall physical and mental condition is a highly significant part of his overall health. When his patients complain to him about low male sex drive, he goes down a specific checklist of items. He concludes that exercise, weight, and diet is at the top of this list.
