Reasons You May Be Gaining Weight Unintentionally

Weight gain is extremely common. If you are gaining weight and don’t know what’s causing it, you may become very frustrated. There are some surprising things that can cause you to gain weight. Here are eight reasons why you may be gaining weight unintentionally.

A Diet Filled With Too Many Processed Foods

You may be eating a lot of processed foods and not even know it. This can cause you to gain an excessive amount of weight. Frozen foods, cereal and snack foods can be filled with a lot of carbohydrates and sugars. You are better off eating healthier foods such as fruits, vegetables and low-fat yogurt. If you aren’t sure whether or not a food is processed, take a look at the label. If the food contains a lot of ingredients, you should steer clear of it.Drinking Sugary Beverages

Excessive sugar can cause weight gain. You may be drinking beverages with a lot of sugar in it and not even know it. Sports drinks, tea and sweetened coffee all tend to contain a lot of sugar. A heavy sugar intake can make you gain weight, and it can increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. If you can, nix sugary drinks altogether. Opt for water or drinks without any added sweeteners. Not Getting Enough Exercise

If you have a busy lifestyle, it can be difficult to fit in enough exercise. However, this can cause you to gain weight. A lot of individuals notice weight gain when they switch from an active job to one where they are sitting behind a desk. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to ensure that you are getting enough exercise. Go on a walk or jog for 30 minutes at least three times each week. When you are watching television, hop on a treadmill or stationary bicycle. Take up a new hobby such as swimming or tennis.Trying A Lot Of Different Types Of Diets

In your quest to lose weight, you may try a lot of different diets. This can just lead to weight gain. You may initially achieve some weight loss, but you will probably gain it all back when you quit the diet. Some individuals will end up gaining a few pounds more on top of that. If you want to diet, make sure it’s something that you can stick to long-term. Focus on dietary changes that aren’t excessively drastic.Certain Medical Issues

Some medical issues may be causing you to gain weight. These include polycystic ovarian syndrome, hypothyroidism and diabetes. If you have gained a lot of weight in a short period of time, you may have an undiagnosed medical condition. This is why it’s important to see your doctor in order to determine if this is the case. You Aren’t Sleeping Enough

Many people don’t realize that their sleeping habits can affect their health. Not getting enough sleep can actually cause you to gain weight. You should strive for at least seven hours of sleep each night. If you are having difficulties sleeping, you may need to develop better habits. Limit your caffeine intake throughout the day. Don’t watch television in bed. Try to go to bed around the same time each night. There’s Too Much Stress In Your Life

Stress is a big factor when it comes to gaining weight unintentionally. Stress causes the production of the cortisol hormone. This hormone can increase your hunger level, and make you want to eat more than usual. If you have a lot of stress in your life, you need to come up with ways to reduce it. If you are stressed and find that you are feeling hungry, do something to distract yourself. Consider learning how to meditate or practice yoga. By learning how to deal with your stress in a way that doesn’t involve turning to food, you can keep from gaining weight unintentionally.Your Portions Are Out Of Control

Portion control can be difficult. It’s one of the leading causes of unintentional weight gain. You may be thinking that you are eating the right amount, but you might actually be eating a lot more than just one serving. Pay attention to serving sizes on packaging. If you think that you are eating too much, then you probably are. You may want to seek the advice of a nutritionist. They can give you some tips on how to eat healthier portions. In conclusion, there may be many reasons why you are gaining weight. You can lose weight by eating the right foods, cutting stress out, sleeping enough and getting an adequate amount of exercise each day. While it is frustrating to gain weight unintentionally, you should be able to lose it by slightly modifying your lifestyle and eating habits.
